The Fire Safety Reset:
5 Year-End Actions For 2026 Readiness

Before your business closes for the December shutdown, make sure your fire protection systems are ready for 2026 by this October/November. This expanded checklist will help facility managers and directors confirm compliance, protect insurance cover, and avoid possible downtime in the new year.

Confirm your fire sprinkler system’s compliance certificate is up to date
Check the expiry date of your current compliance certificate.
Verify that the certificate covers all areas of your facility.
Ensure inspection reports are properly filed and accessible for insurers.
Review insurer fire safety requirements for 2026 renewal
Request updated requirements from your insurer or broker.
Check for any changes in sprinkler system standards (SANS 10287 / SANS 10400-T).
Confirm if additional documentation or testing is required before renewal.
Inspect water supply, pumps, and control valves for functionality
Test water supply flow and pressure against system design requirements.
Inspect and test fire pumps for proper operation and record test results.
Verify all control valves are in the open and locked position.
Plan sprinkler and pump maintenance before Q1 2026 workloads increase
Schedule annual maintenance before December shutdown.
Ensure spare parts are available to avoid delays in December and January.
Document all planned maintenance in your facility’s safety log.
Lock in compliance support with a registered provider
Confirm your service provider is registered with ASIB or relevant authority.
Request a written proposal for 2026 compliance support.
Book your service dates before year-end to secure current rates.

Fires don’t wait for budget cycles. If your fire sprinkler system isn’t compliant by this December, it won’t magically protect you in January.
