Description of Project
Elite Fire Protection was requested to provide a quotation for fire protection systems at a diamond mine to protect a new canteen area being built for the executive team. The quotation was negotiated and was subsequently awarded.
The client is the fourth largest open pit mine in the world and the largest company in the diamond subsector in Angola, being responsible for the extraction of more than 75% of Angolan diamonds.
Fire protection within mines is crucial as operations are often conducted in harsh environments with combustible materials.

PROJECT SCOPE
Design, Supply and Install:
- Fire Sprinkler System
- Diesel Fire pump
PROCESS OUTLINE
Fire Sprinkler System
The client requires a Wet Sprinkler System with two sprinkler control valves (2x150mm) to protect the auditorium. A wet system is more common than other fire sprinkler systems. According to SANS 10400 National Building Code, while not all commercial warehouses or buildings require an automated sprinkler protection system, those over 2500m2 do. Wet fire sprinkler systems protect areas against quickly growing or spreading fires and are used in buildings where there are:
- Combustible materials, or when thermal damage can occur quickly.
- Excessive storage heights

Pump Supply & Installation
The client has an existing wet fire sprinkler system and Elite Fire Protection is responsible for installing a fire sprinkler system in the executive canteen and connecting to the existing water storage tanks.
The upgrade will include the installation of one 100mm ICV, which controls the flow of water to the fire sprinkler system.
The fire sprinklers in the new area will consist of 90 (ninety) white pendent 68-degree quick response with rosettes.

Challenges:
The length of time customs takes to clear stock is longer than that in South Africa which increases the lead time.
Due to stringent security measures, all equipment brought onto the mine site must remain there for security purposes.
